Tell your e-book story…
The inaugural Read an E-book Day is coming up fast on 18 September and Cheney Gardner, Stock and Promotions Manager, points out the ways you can join in with this international celebration of modern storytelling….
If you have already tried e-books, by borrowing through your library or by purchasing them, you can be a part of the festivities by sharing your e-reading stories and experiences. What is your favourite read? Where do you love to sit and absorb your e-books? Has an e-book changed your life? Comment on the Read an E-book Day website, or on Twitter or Facebook using the hashtag #eBookDay and you will be entered into competitions to win a tablet or other device. I remember very clearly reading my first e-book, which I borrowed from the library, and which plunged me headlong into the fabulous world of lady detective Phryne Fisher. The Honourable Miss Fisher sashays through 1920s Melbourne with a pearl handled revolver, solving crime with great panache and collecting waifs and strays to add to her eclectic household. This series of colourful books by Australian Kerry Greenwood, which begins with Miss Phryne Fisher Investigates, improves in leaps and bounds as the author finds her feet and the characters develop. Great fun, much better than the TV series of the same name, and undemanding to read, Phryne and her household get lodged in your heart and you just have to read on to find out what happens to them. If you don’t fancy writing anything about your reading experiences then you can still join in by borrowing an e-book from your local library service’s free e-Library and spending some time reading and enjoying it!
Never tried an e-book before? Why not take this opportunity to give it a go? You can learn more about getting started with OverDrive’s help and advice page and then try out your new knowledge by borrowing one of the many titles from the OverDrive-powered Richmond upon Thames e-library. The e-library is excellent for busy people as it is free, available 24/7 and the books return themselves automatically so there is nothing to do except read and enjoy!
